There can’t be many clubs whose list of the greatest players in history is as star-studded as Real Madrid, which makes sense since it’s basically their thing.
The Bernabeu has seen a number of megastars over the years, breaking the world transfer record five times since 2000.
Unsurprisingly, all five of them feature here… but none of them are in pole position Real Madrid the biggest transfer fee of all time.
It is current Jude Bellingham, even if only technically possible.
The €103m Real Madrid paid Borussia Dortmund in 2023 could have been exceeded by a signing fee Kylian Mbappe agreed as a free agent after leaving Paris Saint-Germain, although sources differ on what the figure is: some put him above Bellingham’s transfer fee, others below.
There is also an argument that Eden Hazard it may have cost more, but he is unlikely to trigger much of the additional €60m reportedly due to Chelsea in additional fees.
Either way, Mbappe’s wasn’t a transfer fee and so doesn’t really count, while Bellingham’s move has its own add-ons, so we’re left with Bellingham as the answer.

It’s fair to say the England international is worth the money so far: Bellingham is ranked No. 4 in FourFourTwo list of the best players in the world right now
Bellingham broke a record that had been tied but not surpassed for a decade.
Gareth Bale became the first 100 million player when he moved from Tottenham Hotspur in 2013, when Real Madrid last broke the world transfer record.
Although often unpopular madridistas Bale’s record speaks for itself: he helped them to three league titles and five Champions Leagues during his nine years at the club. ranked No. 32 in FourFourTwo list of the greatest Real Madrid players of all time.
Danger he cost the same initial fee of €100m when he moved from Chelsea in 2019, but he struggled for form and fitness and never established himself as a real regular in the team.
The Belgian left Real Madrid by mutual termination in the summer of 2023 and announced his retirement a few months later.
The other previous world record holders besides Bales, in case you were wondering, were Cristiano Ronaldo, Zinedine Zidane, Kaka a Luis Figo.
