Tottenham are interested in signing Wolves goalkeeper Sam Johnstone as cover for the injured Guglielmo Vicario, according to reports.
John Stone moved to Wolves from Crystal Palace for £10 million in the summer transfer window but failed to become a regular starter ahead of Jose Sa.
The 31-year-old made his debut on matchday three against Nottingham Forest and was unable to prevent his new side from losing four Premier League games in a row after a 1-1 draw at the City Ground.
He did not start again until 9 December, after being an unused substitute three times and not making the matchday squad on four occasions.
Wolves then lost two out of two with Johnstone in goal, his latest form coming in a 2-1 defeat at Ipswich Town, Gary O’Neill’s final match before his sacking.
Sa has started Wolves’ last three matches under new head coach Vitor Pereira, keeping two clean sheets in the process, the club’s only two clean sheets in the Premier League this season.
Johnstone could be on the move in the winter transfer window, having failed to become a regular starter at Molineux after a similar experience at Palace.

Tottenham have emerged as a serious option for Johnstone with first-choice goalkeeper Vaccaro out with an ankle injury.
The Italian underwent ankle surgery after suffering the injury in the 4-0 win at Manchester City on November 23 and is expected to be out for at least three months.
After Vaccaro’s injury was discovered, Tottenham Head coach Ange Postecoglou said he will not go on the free agent market and has full confidence in Fraser Forster.
“It’s not going to happen — I don’t think signing a free agent now is going to help us,” he said. Fraser, I have known for a long time. He is such a strong character in the group and is always ready to play.
Now that the transfer window is open, Postecoglou could sign a goalkeeper from another club. After several big mistakes from Forster.
According to Football LondonSpurs are ‘eyeing’ Johnstone as ‘potential cover’ for Vicario.
As Pereira appears to have settled on Sa as his No.1, the four-cap Englishman has become ‘one of the candidates Spurs are looking at to provide cover in Vaccario’s absence’.
The report further states:
It remains to be seen what kind of deal Wolves will allow for a player who was signed for £10million just five months ago.
With Forster out of contract this summer, along with academy product Alfie Whitman, Johnson could potentially provide long-term cover alongside Brendan Austin, who was handed a new five-year deal last year.
Tottenham have looked at signing Johnstone in the past and it may be the case this time around.
