Tiger Woods is approaching a major career change after celebrating his 49th birthday on Monday.
It means the American is now just 12 months away from making the Champions Tour – with a former major champion revealing Woods’ desire to join.
To join the Champions Tour, players must turn 50 by June 1 of that year, putting Tiger in a good position to join the tour in early 2026.
Players also complete a 72-hole regional qualifier to demonstrate their readiness for senior golf.
Multiple major winner Padraig Harrington Woods revealed his intentions in an interview with Today’s Golfer ahead of the Senior Open at Carnoustie.
“I met with Tiger recently and he said he’s looking forward to being on the Champions Tour,” Harrington said.
I think his words were, “I can’t wait to beat you on the Champions Tour,” or something like that.
“He doesn’t want me to have things my way, let’s put it that way! I’m looking forward to the challenge.”
Woods He will be allowed to use a golf cart on the Champions Tour, but it remains to be seen whether he will use that option.
As the golf legend continues to manage injuries from a near-fatal car accident in 2021, using a cart could potentially increase his chances of winning regularly.
Regardless, the prospect of Woods lining up against his former friends and rivals is impressive for fans and players alike.
Asked about a possible meeting with Woods in the future, Rocco Mediate told The Detroit News earlier this year: “I like it loud. I like more people. I can’t wait. What else? Will you do? is all I tell him
If he is healthy, he can still participate in the regular tour as long as he wants. But if he’s not, he can cart around here, which he does because it’s good here… and it’s competitive, and it’s another era to break all the records.
It would be great to have him back, and he’s going to have a ball. These are all his friends.
These 15 major winners have struggled to make the regular tour the past three years.
He returned to golf at the 2022 Masters, but his performances in majors since then have seen him withdraw twice and miss the event four more times.
Despite enduring a difficult period, Woods remains optimistic about his future.
“I’ve gotten better, although my results haven’t really shown it,” she said.
I just have to keep improving like that and eventually play more competitively and get back into the competitive flow.
I’m just getting better physically and working on it.”
