This week’s FA Cup postponements: Two games already rescheduled as England grips with cold

The FA Cup third round is usually the highlight of the English football calendar, but bad weather is spoiling this weekend’s schedule.

The glittering stage of the tournament began on Thursday, with Everton win against Peterborough without delay.

The Premier League clubs received permission to host the League One Cup Afternoon session on fan safety According to the area affected by snow

However, teams across the country with worse facilities than Goodison Park have had no luck battling the cold.

In early December, Cyclone Drag wreaked havoc on FA Cup second round matches, and the freezing conditions of 2025 have continued since then.

According to the Met Office, temperatures across England could drop below freezing, bringing with it snow and ice.

As a result, several lower division clubs will be anxiously awaiting news of possible cancellations of their upcoming clashes.

Which knockout cup matches were postponed?

So far, two games of the third round have been canceled due to freezing of the fields.

The all-League One tie between Mansfield and Wigan was due to be played on Saturday evening but has been postponed.

Their domestic rivals Charlton were also due to take on Championship side Preston at 3pm but will not play as well.

Both games are scheduled for Tuesday, January 14 and kick off at 7:45 p.m.

In a statement, Mansfield said: “Icy covers have been in place all week in an effort to protect the pitch on the playing surface, however, the temperature reached minus 7C in the early hours of this morning and is not expected to get above freezing inside the pitch. In the next 24 hours, the initial decision has been made to postpone the game.

Preston said: “An inspection of the pitch at Deepdale on Friday was carried out by match referee Robin Ricardo and the playing surface was deemed unplayable.

Despite the tireless efforts of the club’s ground staff to prepare the pitch for the match, sub-zero temperatures throughout the week and into Thursday night meant the surface was frozen.

With similar conditions expected again on Friday evening into Saturday morning, an early decision will be made regarding the travel plans of fans and players and staff. Charlton Athletic
