Shearer predicts Guerres with Arsenal man ‘far from Holland, Kane or Mbappe’

Former Premier League striker Alan Shearer believes Victor Guevara will start scoring more goals for Arsenal after a slow start.

The Gunners beat Fulham 1-0 on Saturday to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League table to three points over second-placed Manchester City.

Liverpool would go back to within a point weapon If the Reds beat arch-rivals Manchester United on Sunday and some in the mailbox are not too sure the Gunners can maintain their current form.

Arsenal have scored just five of their 15 goals this season with the other ten coming from set-pieces, which some critics believe is unsustainable.

Jevicieres failed to score against Fulham after the Sweden international scored three goals in his first eight Premier League appearances for the Gunners.

After Arsenal scored another set-piece goal to beat Fulham on Saturday, Shearer was asked to analyze Guiceres’ start to the Premier League after scoring 97 goals in 102 appearances for CP Sports.

Shearer said BBC Match of the Day: “He’s not in the league of the trio we showed in the previous clip (Erling Holland, Harry Kane and Kylian Mbappe), far from it.

“But I think he brings a different strength, there’s no doubt he’s got to improve his goalscoring, as you said, he’s only got three.

“But one of his strengths that has suited Arsenal is that he actually drops back. When he does that it creates space for others to play because last season you had (Kai) Huertz or (Michael) Merino coming up short and it’s easier for teams to defend against.

“When you’re running the other way, they get deeper and deeper and then that opens up space for others to play. I think it’s improved the arsenal from that standpoint.”

When asked if he would get more goals for Arsenal, Shearer replied: “I think he will get goals, obviously, nowhere near what he had last season.

“But he’s going to get goals with the number of chances the weapons generate, he will, and his numbers should improve.”
