Shearer offers three reasons for Salah’s devastation as Carragher pleads with Slott to ‘play someone else’.

Alan Shearer has come up with three possible reasons for Mohamed Salah’s dramatic decline this season while Jamie Carragher has urged Liverpool boss Arn Sloat to “play someone else”.

Slott’s side have lost five of their last six Premier League games Slip into the eighth off the top of the tableeight points clear of the league leaders.

And I on the back of their extreme performance 3-0 defeat to Manchester City on Sunday Scheer believes this is a huge margin for the Reds and claims they “won’t win anything” if they fail to improve.

He told Betfair: “If Liverpool keep playing like this against Manchester City, they won’t win anything.

“Whatever competition they’re in, they’ll finish. They’ve got the FA Cup and the Champions League, but I think the league has gone for them now they’ve lost five games.

“I don’t see them in the title race anymore. I think they probably have to win every game between now and the end of the season.

“I don’t think it’s possible. So, I think their title race is done. It’s the Champions League or the FA Cup for Liverpool, but they won’t win either of those unless they’re better anyway.”

One of the standout factors in Liverpool’s poor run of form is the lack of Salah after they ran to the title with 29 goals and 18 assists last season.

He has managed just four goals and two assists this term and Shearer speculates what has changed with the Egyptian hero.

“Mo Salah is nowhere near what he was last season or how he’s been,” Shearer said. “I don’t know if (Salah) feels he is no longer the number one player because of the money spent on Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak.

“There’s definitely something that’s not right, whether it’s the old age thing getting to him and not being as good as he was, or he’s got a fly in his bonnet about something.

“But we’re certainly not seeing the same Mo Salah as we’ve seen. You can really say that about most of Liverpool’s players.”

Jamie Carragher believes the slot can no longer play Salah if he is not contributing in attack while failing to defend.

“If you’re not scoring goals at one end and you’re leaving your team exposed at the other end you’re basically not getting anything from that strategy of just allowing Mo Salah to stay up top,” Carragher said on the overlap. “So he’s either got to come back (defensively) or you’ve got to play somebody else.

“That’s why I said a few weeks ago that Mo Salah’s days every week, especially away from home, have to stop.”
