Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has told Liverpool that the summer sale “never happened” and they failed to deal with it, instead signing a player they didn’t need.
In terms of inbound transfers in the summer, the Reds spent around $450 million. They had to raise funds for this, and the eight sales brought in around £200 million.
The highest figure that was brought in was $65.5 million Luis DiazSold to Bayern Munich.
The Colombian winger has made this sale a poor one, as he already has 11 goals and five assists for the Bundesliga giants.
Premier League legend Hasselbank said Liverpool This sale should never have happened, and it essentially created a domino effect that they have not rectified.
He said Sky Sports: “Letting Diaz go, in my eyes, should never have happened, they should have gone and got a winger at that point.
“You’ve got (Hugo) Aktyk in the building, he’s been doing well, he’s hit the ground running.
“Anything you say is not good and that’s the problem you’re going to have. You’ve got that problem then you’ve got to find the players to do the job.
“(Florian) Wurtz, don’t forget there Wurtz that you have to find a place.”

In fact, Liverpool spent around $450 million on six players – while one joined for free – and none were wingers.
Combined, the attackers, who were signed in the summer, have a combined 12 goals in all competitions, four less than Diaz’s 16 at Bayern.
Wirtz is capable of playing as a left winger, and that’s actually closer to the position he was used to playing at Bayer Leverkusen before his $116 million move to Liverpool.
While he’s played there on occasion, it hasn’t had the impact that might have been hoped for, and Issac has found success after a massive $130 million move.
Liverpool have been linked with wingers of late to potentially make up for the fact that they have lost a world-class player and have not replaced him, and it could be that they raid Diaz’s current side Bayern with Michael Ulis and Serge Ginabry, both linked of late.
