However, it is clear for all to see that the Italy international is not one of the favorites for the slot as he is not getting the game time that his recent performances deserve.
Chiesa needs to be given credit for sticking with the slot selection decisions – easier than returning to Serie A for more consistent game time in a World Cup year – but it feels like he’s fighting a losing battle at Anfield.
It is highly unlikely that he will ever become a regular Liverpool starter due to the immense attacking competition in his way, but he will not be short of options after proving himself a valuable signing for the Reds.

Joe Gomez
Considering how poorly Liverpool have been defending this season, Slott could do worse than lean on Gomes as a safe pair of feet to ease their problems at full-back or centre-back, as his versatility has troubled the club in the past.
But, like Chiesa, it’s clear the slot doesn’t particularly fancy Gomes, who has admittedly been hampered by injuries during the Dutchman’s spell at Anfield.
The 28-year-old would have left the Reds in the summer if they had signed Mark Gehey as a move to AC Milan had been mooted, so an exit is likely heading into the New Year as Liverpool look for a more reliable alternative who is not quite as injury-prone.
Abraham Connett
Liverpool should really do their renovation work on signing Gehry before deadline day ends, as they won’t be as open in defense with the England international at centre-back.
In Gehry’s absence, Conte continues with captain Virgil van Dijk at centre-back and the once strong partnership has suddenly become one of the Premier League’s weakest.

Andy Robertson
Robertson is another Liverpool player due to be out of contract at the end of this season, so he is on loan at Anfield.
The Scotland international’s place has already been replaced by summer signing Milos Kirkes, although he really needs to be used more regularly through the slot as the former Bournemouth man has been a liability so far this season.
Kirkez’s unrealistic approach means Liverpool are even less stable on the left than they were last season with Robertson as the weak link, although the club will hope he can finally mature to be relied upon in defense and attack.
Meanwhile, Slott’s insistence on playing in-form Kerkes suggests Robertson has little time left at Liverpool and will finish his career elsewhere. He looks very, very disappointed.
Muhammad Salah
If it wasn’t for Salah, Liverpool wouldn’t have won the Premier League last season. He was comfortably their best attacker, with his remarkable solo season earning the 33-year-old a new two-year contract.
At the time, Liverpool’s decision to invest in Salah was easily justified, but it now appears that they were thinking too short-term when backing the experienced forward, who has largely declined at the start of this season.

At present it is unlikely that he will be the man to lift Liverpool back up and FSG have every right to be ‘concerned’ as Jurgen Klopp’s return is easily prepared.
Virgil van Dijk
Van Dijk, like Salah, took a step back in years last season when he returned to full form after suffering a setback following his ACL injury.
The Dutchman re-established himself as one of the world’s greatest centre-backs when he held Liverpool’s defense together, but his performances have been, by his standards, truly poor this term.
Liverpool’s lack of options at centre-back puts Van Dijk at risk of further exposure in the coming months, with Gehry standing out as the ideal fit to replace him if they can fend off a number of European giants to sign him.
