Manchester City have identified a “special talent” as their top transfer target as Pep Guardiola looks to ‘save their season’, according to reports.
In recent months, Man City have gone through a major slump as they have won just two of their last 14 matches in all competitions.
This dreadful run of form has seen their Premier League title hopes end. They are 15 points behind table-toppers Liverpool, who have a game in hand. They are also in danger of being kicked out of the Champions League.
At the end of 2024, Guardiola committed his future to Man City by signing a new contract. He may already be regretting the decision as the alliance needs a major rebuild. He may not have the energy required to see this project through.
Guardiola has admitted he needs reinforcements this month, but also noted he cannot sign “for the sake of it”.

He said: “I don’t know yet. It’s not easy and it won’t be easy.
“The club has to be sensible, not do it for the sake of doing it. The situation we have, in the context of the players who are injured, of course the club has to do it but I don’t know if it’s possible they will do it. “
Man City – who are in need of upgrades at various positions – have been linked with a number of potential signings, Along with Lens defenseman Abdulkadir Khasanov among the players on his radar.
The 20-year-old centre-back – who has 18 caps for Uzbekistan – is enjoying a breakout season in League One as he has already made 16 appearances for Lens this term.

The report explains:
Manchester City have joined the race for Lens centre-back Abdulkadir Khasanov as they review January transfer window targets to bolster Pep Guardiola’s squad.
Khasanov has been a breakout star in French football over the past year and Telegraph Sport revealed last month that Tottenham and Newcastle were watching the 20-year-old, who joined Ligue 1 from Belarusian club Energetik-BGU Minsk just 18 months ago. I had arrived.
‘But Khasanov is also understood to be in place ahead of City’s mid-season window where Guardiola will look for reinforcements after a dramatic drop in results for the Premier League champions. Although a deal is by no means formal, he is a player to be admired at the Etihad Stadium.’
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano added, the “special talent” is a “serious option” for Man City in January.
“Keep an eye on Khusnov. He’s doing a great job playing center back for Lens in Ligue 1,” Romano said.
“He’s a special talent. But it’s not just Manchester City who want him. My understanding is that Pep Guardiola has the player Khushanov as one of the big names in the January transfer window. Some contacts have already started.
“Lenis knows Man City are interested but there are others around Europe – top, top clubs – also interested in the player. So we will see how City progress but they are serious about Khasanov for January. Consider the option.
