Red Devils ‘need money’ from post-season tour, pundit claims

Man Utd ‘need’ the £8-10m they will receive from the post-season tour to ensure they remain profitable and sustainable in the Premier League, according to former Man City financial adviser Stephen Borson. Avoid breaking the rules (PSR).

The Red Devils spent around £180m in the summer transfer window as INEOS and Sir Jim Ratcliffe looked to give Erik ten Hag the tools to succeed this season.

However, it responded brilliantly Man Utd Ten Hague was fired at the end of October and replaced by Ruben Amorim in November.

Widespread reports have indicated that Man Utd are close to PSR rules after spending more than £20m to replace Ten Hag and his staff with Amorim and his entourage.

And now Man Utd may need to go on a money-making tour after the season to avoid a PSR penalty and possible ‘points deduction’, according to Football Insider.

The Red Devils are reportedly planning a post-season tour of Malaysia and former Man City financial adviser Borson says Man Utd “probably need £8-10m to meet the PSR. is”.

Borson said Football insider: “You compare that to what City and Chelsea have in store for their players after agreeing to participate in the Club World Cup.

“One game in Malaysia is nothing compared to the whole Club World Cup in half of June and half of July.

“I don’t think it’s that big of a deal. I know the Newcastle and Tottenham players made a big fuss about it last season, but it doesn’t seem like a big deal to me.

“I think the interesting thing is that they need money.

“United probably need £8-10 million to meet the PSR, given their extra spending on management changes this year.

“That would be my best guess as to why they want to do that.

“Obviously, it’s for the money. But I think there’s an urgent need for it, so I wonder if it’s optional.

“It could be that they’ve got a hole in the profit and loss account that they need to fill by making a chunk of cash from the game, and that’s the only way they can do it.”

One player who has adapted to Amorim’s way of playing is Imad Diallo with the 22-year-old playing well at right-back in a 3-4-3 formation.

Asked about being part of a group of emerging talent at Man Utd, Diallo said: “We are part of the plan, we have a lot of young players for this club, especially Garna, Kobe, In Joshua (Zarkezi), Rasmus (Hugelund), we have young players who want to make history for this club.

“We want to do our best in every game. Sometimes it doesn’t work, but you can see on the pitch that we are very focused on doing our best for this club, because we want to get this club back to the level it was before.

“So, for the young guys, we just have to keep going, work hard and most importantly listen to the older players, the older players, learn every day.

“We have a new manager now, he likes to work with young players, and he brings a new system, so we just have to follow it and try to do our best in every game.”
