Manchester United are reportedly looking at the possibility of bringing Mason Greenwood back to Old Trafford as they ‘build up’ an offer to Marseille.
While I Man utdwas suspended by the Red Devils on January 30, 2022 over allegations involving a young woman after photos and videos were posted online.
He faced charges including rape and attempted assault, but the Crown Prosecution Service announced in February 2023 that the case had been closed.
Greenwood eventually left Old Trafford in July 2024 when he joined Marseille in a £31.6m deal after Manchester United retained a 50 per cent sell-on clause.
The 24-year-old has been prolific for the French side after leading the way with 21 goals and five assists in 34 league appearances last term.
After scoring four goals in Marseille’s 6-2 thrashing of Le Havre on Saturday, Greenwood took his season tally to seven goals and four assists in ten appearances in all competitions.

And now the Spanish publication Transfer Man Utd insists ‘they have decided to make an ambitious move into the market and are lining up around €100m to bring Greenwood back home in the summer.
The report added: ‘Manchester United have left Mason Greenwood for Olympique Marseille in 2024 for £26m and have retained a 50% release clause on his future sales. Sources close to the English club have revealed that they are not satisfied with acquiring the part and want to improve the situation with an outright purchase.
‘In Manchester, they suggest a £100m fee would allow Mason Greenwood to return without sharing profits or making him dependent on release clauses. The club values both his performance in France and his commercial potential following his improved image. ‘
Despite a sale anywhere which means Man Utd will still receive a significant percentage thanks to their resale clause, they now prefer to handle costs and have full control over the player’.

When asked if Greenwood could become one of the world’s elite if he maintains his current form, Marseille boss Roberto de Zerbi replied: “It’s true that Mason can do more, not just in terms of scores because he doesn’t need to do better in that area. He’s already a top player in front of goal, but he can become the best player in his capacity.”
“He can improve to help the team when needed. But I want to avoid criticizing Mason, he always scored a lot of goals and never missed a training session. But he still has room for improvement.”
Speaking earlier about Greenwood’s potential, de Zerby said: “All the credit goes to his mum and dad. And I’m there to help him. When he needs a hug, a word of help, I’m happy to give it. And when I need to push him to give more, I have to because it’s my job.
“I want to help him be remembered, especially in this stadium and by these supporters, because here is one of the greatest players to ever play at the Velodrome. There are a lot of great players, but I think Greenwood has the qualities to be remembered that way. And I’m trying to help him develop.”
De Zerbe added: “If he wants to be a great player, he has to run off the ball. I saw Mbappe, I saw Dembele press without the ball, and Greenwood has to do it too. He has worked on pressing, but not always. When he wants to, he has to understand, and he has to understand that effort separates the greats.”
