We fully accept that there is a huge temptation to target everyone at Manchester United transfers because a) they make it look so easy, b) it’s always going to be fun to slip them and c) criticism of anything done with the Red Devils makes headlines.
But we would advise this calling Patrick Dorgo “A dude” reflects far worse on Piotr Sadowski, who worked as a scout at United before his departure in August 2024, and those who decided to hang on to his opinion for seven years than Dorgo himself, or whoever made the wise call to send Sadowski packing, if indeed that’s the way he’s headed.
Dorgo was first signed under Ruben Amorim when he joined from Lakes in a $29.2 million deal in the January transfer window, and when it was put to Sadowski that the 21-year-old could be an example of a failed recruitment by Amorim, he replied: “A dude, I definitely agree with that.
“And he was brought in for $30 million. Honestly, having recently worked at Blackburn Rovers and working on a very small transfer budget, I would have no problem with Manchester United looking for a few players at Dorgo’s level, but not for $30 million, just up to four at the most.”
Among the comments is the pain of a former employee who refuses to accept the fairly obvious improvement in recruitment at Manchester United under Amorim.
Looking for “a dud” to prove his point, he couldn’t pick Mathis Cunha, Brian Maibomo or Sunny Lemmons as they’re all disappointingly qualified, Benjamin Sisko has the potential to flop but it’s probably too soon and Sadowski recommends signing him right away, with Dorgo leaving out Dorgo.

According to fbref74th percentile for shot-creating initiatives, 79th for key passes, 81st for progressive carries and 99th for touches in the opposition box, versus full backs Dorgo ranked in the 74th percentile.
For those of you crying foul at the unfair comparison because Dorgo wasn’t a wing-back ad a full-back, he’s also in the 86th percentile for interceptions and 91st for tackles won. He is primarily an excellent one-on-one defender who gets forward and creates chances regularly.
And it’s not as if those stats are painting the picture of Dorgo we’re seeing – and we suspect Sadoski isn’t seeing – when watching Manchester United games. He is a talented young footballer who could be a long-term solution at left-back for United. He may not be either. Time will tell.
But what he is not at all is a “dud”. And if Sadowski thinks he has in mind how many genuine duds he has convinced Manchester United owners to sign in his seven years combing the transfer market for talent he can’t reveal.
