Amorim has won just four of his first 11 matches in all competitions since replacing Erik ten Hague at Old Trafford in November.
The change in formation under Amorim was expected to bring out the best in the current squad, with the Portuguese head coach also looking to change the style and philosophy at Old Trafford.

Neville believes Man Utd need two key signings to improve Amorim’s side and secure some of the “fundamentals of this system”.
When asked which signings Amorim will now help make, the Man Utd legend said: Sky Sports: “Certainly the positions that… look, you can say get a world-class center forward, get (Alexander) Isak, but that’s never going to happen.
“I think if you were starting you have to start with the fundamentals of the system which is the wingbacks, they hold it together.
“If you don’t have wing-backs working up and down, they are able to attack and defend equally well – and there aren’t many of those around because there aren’t many teams who play on the wing. Play back – then you’re going to struggle.
