Neville and Carragher pick EPL teams of the season and make predictions 2025| All Football

Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher have picked their teams from the Premier League season so far and made their predictions for 2025.

Appearing on the year’s Monday Night Football final – when Manchester United were beaten by Newcastle – the Sky Sports pundit selected their best XIs from the 2024/25 campaign so far.

Neville and Carragher also reflected on their predictions from the start of the season, changing their picks for Premier League champions, relegated sides and more on May 25.

Read on to find out who they chose and why…

Gary Neville’s team of the season

“The back of the left I was struggling with badly. But If Guardiol having scored four goals, he is always a threat.

“He is the one who is played regularly and if I were to pick a team at the moment and I was thinking of building a back four, he would be the player I would put in the left back.

“He’s a goal threat, he does his job quite well at left-back. City scoring goals left, right and centre, I’m getting that at the moment. It’s not normal for them , it’s not normal for him.”

“Because William Saliba plays right centre-back and he’s just edged it, I looked at the numbers this morning, it was one of (him and Gabriel). It hasn’t been the best start to the season for Arsenal but defensively they are still strong and it is still excellent. So he was the obvious choice to play alongside (Virgil) Van Dijk.

“The more I watch it Trent Alexander-ArnoldI think his defense has improved a lot. He’s got better intensity to defend, I’m not saying he’s perfect but I think he has a much better approach to defense at the moment than I’ve seen before. I think he’s improved tremendously in the last 12 months and what he does on the ball I have to say is phenomenal.”

Jamie Carragher’s team of the season

Nikola Milenkovic almost like the Van Dijk of Nottingham Forest. Gary went for Saliba, you had a fantastic fight between Saliba and Gabriel for me. I was actually very close to putting Gabriel in for the defensive record but also because he is the most talked about defender in the league from what he does on set pieces. But I feel what Nottingham Forest do defensively, a lot of it is about that.

Country Life plays right and left back. Every time I watch him he does that job on both sides, and every time I watch him I look at him and think he could play for a team that expects to be in the Champions League every term.

“It’s the defensive side of it that really impresses me so I felt I had to get two of their defenders in there.”

2025 predictions: Arsenal and Liverpool picked as PL champions

Neville on picking Arsenal as Premier League champions over Liverpool…

“Liverpool are huge favorites and in great form but there’s still a long way to go. Arsenal have been through the mill in recent years, they’ve gone down to the wire and sometimes when you win your title first, it doesn’t happen in the most expected way.

“It’s clear to me that if Van Dijk is injured, it’s a completely different story. If Arsenal can close the gap to six points on Wednesday, that could reduce quite quickly if Van Dijk got injured) – he’s such a massive player for them.

“They’ve proven they can live without Alisson, who was just as important a few years ago, but now with (Caoimhin) Kelleher backing him, they’ve got attention. They have options for the future – ( Mohamed) Salah would be a shot because he is world class – but they have (Diogo) Jota, (Cody) Gakpo, (Darwin) Nunez.

“And when each of them scores, they look equally happy for each other and that’s a worrying sign for the rest. They all buy into each other and something goes there between them as players.

“Things are going against Arsenal at the moment and they are hanging in there. They are the only team that can take the game away from Liverpool.

“Arsenal have a resilience about them, they have a back four that can hold it together and get through games and I think they will attack better in the next part of the season. If they they could come close towards the end, they could hunt Liverpool down.”

Neville on Aston Villa finish fifth…

“If Aston Villa leave the Champions League in February or March, Unai Emery is the type to have them fighting towards the end of the season and they will finish strongly to get fifth place.”

Carragher on Newcastle finish fifth…

“Newcastle don’t have the European situation, they could go a bit further in the Carabao Cup. Villa can’t get started – they’ll win a game, then they’ll lose one or they’ll draw games. they should have won.

Carragher on Nottingham Forest finish sixth…

“Most people, even Nottingham Forest, would expect the teams we have in the top four to finish above them.

“They have a big lead at the moment with only half a season to go. If they can go anywhere near what they have done, they can make it very difficult for those teams.”

Carragher on the relegation battle…

“I’ve been worried about Leicester since Ruud van Nistelrooy came in, although some of the results have been good and the performance was good against Man City. But Leicester have conceded a lot of chances and shots, a big chance in all the games they have played bar the one Man City.

“Because they expect to stay up, sometimes it can be negative and they have already changed the manager. Ipswich won their third game of the season against Chelsea but the feel good factor is still there. If there is they’ve had a few bad results, they “They’re not going to get too down on themselves, but in Leicester, the crowd can get quite negative.”
