Manchester United star Matthijs de Ligt has revealed that his team deliberately focused on the major ‘weakness’ of Liverpool to achieve their first victory at Anfield in almost a decade.
According to the Dutch, the plan of the Red Devils was to take advantage of the duo of Liverpool’s laterals, Milos Kerkez and Conor Bradley, who had a disappointing start to the season.
The lateral position has been a problematic area for Liverpool since Trent Alexander-Arnold’s move to Real Madrid and a free signing last summer.
The new signings Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong have not yet reached the level they exhibited respectively in Bournemouth and Bayern Leverkusen, while Andrew Robertson and Bradley also showed a lack of form.
Arne Slot trusted Kerkez and Bradley as starters on Sunday against Manchester United, while Frimpong came off the bench in the 89th minute to replace Mohamed Salah on the right side.
At the end of the party, De Ligt declared to Viaplay: ‘We knew that Liverpool had weak points, and those are their full-backs.’

United’s surprising 2-1 victory marked Liverpool’s fourth consecutive defeat in all competitions
Harry Maguire scored the victory goal with a header in the 84th minute, surprising Anfield
‘We were all very excited and focused. Today was a game in which you had to be very focused.’
El United, who beat Sunderland 2-0 before the qualifiers, won two consecutive victories for the first time this season.
At 62 seconds from the start of the game, United surprised Anfield with a goal from Bryan Mbeumo and fought with all their forces to preserve the minimum advantage until Cody Gakpo equalized in the 78th minute.
Six minutes later, and an enormous giro that led Manchester United to win their first game at Anfield since 2016 under the direction of Louis van Gaal, Harry Maguire turned to advance the visitors with a head shot.
The fans of the Red Devils hope that the victory over their eternal rivals will mark an inflection point for the pressed coach Rubén Amorim, who has now achieved consecutive victories in the Premier League for the first time since his arrival at Old Trafford el pasado noviembre.
After the party, United legend Gary Neville issued a scathing verdict on Liverpool’s defensive performance, calling it ‘really poor’ and ‘disorganized’.
“I think the individual performances of Liverpool’s defenders were really poor, and the decisions were taken,” said Neville on The Gary Neville Podcast.

Gary Neville, en su podcast, criticized Kerkez for defending as a 10-year-old left winger
“The left winger (Milos Kerkez) has not been established… he plays as a left winger for 10 years, he is part of it.”
“At right back, Conor Bradley was good today, I don’t think he did anything particularly wrong, but Van Dijk… I haven’t seen Van Dijk so unstable.”
‘Sometimes, when a player returns from a national team break, he was the one who endured it, but today he played one of his worst games.’
