Man Utd hit out for ‘huge mistake’ as Carreys could become ‘best in world’ at Real Madrid

Former Manchester United scout Piotr Sadowski has taken the club after “abandoned” academy star Alvaro Carreras, who could now become the “best” left-back in the world.

After spending time in Real’s academy, Racing United was signed. There, the Spaniard proved himself a huge attacking asset, with four goals and 10 assists in the Under-23s.

He had a successful loan spell at Preston, and then moved to Granada for another loan before that. united Lost confidence and sold him to Benfica for around $5 million.

United had a buy-back clause and after Carreys scored four goals and assisted five in the final period, many felt he should have exercised it, but he opted against it and the full-back joined Real Madrid.

There, he has started 15 games and looked a formidable asset, scoring a late long-range effort in the 4-0 victory over Valencia.

Former United scout Sadowski has insisted the club show little confidence in Carreys despite his progress with him.

“Initially, his career was going well. He was loaned to Preston, where he got good reviews, and then United let him go, and sold him to Benfica for a low fee,” they said.

“He is a world-class player. There is a very good chance he will become one of the best, or one of the best, left-backs in the world.

“He recently scored a great goal against Valencia in La Liga. It was a huge mistake for United to let him go. Something is missing here, and I think United lack the courage to invest in young players.”

Carreys has started every game bar this season which suggests United should have activated their buyout to land him before they were able to.

The Spaniard has played some of his football as a wing-back, so it’s not like he wouldn’t be a good fit for Ruben Amorim’s system.

It would be the latest in a string of poor transfer decisions from United if Carreys becomes the world’s best, and for now he seems to have slotted seamlessly into the Real side.
