Man UTD exclusive: Yorke outlines what will represent a ‘remarkable comeback’ by Amorim this term

Man Utd legend Dwight Yorke believes Ruben Amorim’s side can start looking towards a possible top six finish after beating Liverpool at Anfield.

“The one thing they’ve got to protect against is that after a win against Liverpool, everyone is coming after them, and you have to have a reaction to that. So what you can’t allow to happen is you get these two good results, which are huge results against Liverpool, and then fall into a slump. So it will be interesting. So it will be interesting.

“All eyes will be on them for the next game they play. And you don’t want to take one step forward and two steps back. I hope they don’t fall into that old cliché and brush it off and think they can just sit on the back of Liverpool’s results. They need to kick on.”

Asked what his target was for the rest of the season, Yorke added: “I think the top four, that’s usually the norm. They’ve got to get back into the top six. The top four would be a remarkable return.

“Nobody imagined that, not even myself, who is obviously a United fan. I’d be happy with the top six where we finished last season, because it’s a quick job. It’s going to be a job. But what we’re seeing is that everybody can beat each other at any time and United can certainly do that. But they’ll be back on a much more consistent basis.

“I always come back to beat the teams around me. Beat the teams you’re beating on paper. When you’re losing against those teams it’s a bit annoying. We know they can put in those kinds of performances against Liverpool and City in the past, and you have to roll up your sleeves and get results against lesser teams.”
