There’s been a lot of football on our screens this week and John Nicholson has seen most of it. This is what happens when you have a stroke.

And I didn’t sleep like last week.

Penny Bonnet v Cardiff Met University was on. S4C on Tuesday and was originally the last nationally broadcast game of 2024 from the central Wales centre. Only highways and soccer route lovers will have turned on this Cymru Premier League game. I’ve never seen an obscure league I didn’t love. People’s game has really been played here with heart and soul.

I have to say, it’s a lot more fun than watching Manchester United. On the 4G pitch for 1500 die-hard souls, what looked like a blizzard, mesmerizingly coming from SDM Glass Bryntirion Park Stadium, introduced by a man in thick glasses. And the final game of the year ended in a 2-2 draw, with Cardiff Met having a brilliant fightback to equalise.

Still ongoing. Sky SportsRangers v Celtic should never be missed. It has no equal in English football. For better or worse, it makes other derbies look like polite parties.
