The Red Devils took the lead just two minutes before Kody Gakpo’s tap-in through Brian Mbemo brought Liverpool back on level terms 12 minutes from time.

“I felt they had to do it this year and they couldn’t come second again. They’ve got an amazing group of players, it’s probably the best squad in terms of depth in the league.
“They recruited well in the summer and found a way again against Fulham tomorrow. They are my favorites to win the Premier League.”
Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk believes the Reds were “too quick” against Manchester United and urged his team-mates to “stick together”.
Van Dijk said: “It’s an exciting time but we have to stick together not just as players but as a club and fans who want us to win.
“We need to stay humble and work and keep our confidence as high as possible. When things get tough, it’s important that we keep the mindset of being there for each other. It’s a long season.
“I think we conceded a very sloppy second goal. We worked really hard to get back into the game and we created a lot of chances to score the winner but if you concede a second goal like that, that’s the disappointing part.

“If you look at the game as a whole, we were too quick. I think they were very patient, they didn’t give us high but they didn’t let us have the ball. We still created a lot of chances to score but the fact is we lost.”
Jamie Carragher has his doubts about Liverpool’s title credentials with a number of his players letting their standards drop this season.
Carragher said Sky Sports: “Liverpool are still conceding goals and big chances. I don’t think there’s one clear problem, it’s a lot of things.
“The new signings are not up to speed but some of Liverpool’s greats from last season are nowhere near that level.
“They’re making mistakes. It’s not happening enough for Liverpool. I’m worried for Liverpool, not only because of the results but also the performances.”
