Sabalanka defeated him in the semi -finals, but he believed that if he reached the final, he would win the fourth consecutive title.
“If Iga beat me another day, I think he would go out today and he would win,” he said at the post -match press conference.
“It’s just hurt, it hurts honestly, I have really played well and then in the last race, go there and run like me, hurt.”
However, when Gaf was informed about Sabalenka’s statements, he said, “I do not agree with it, I’m sitting here.
“And the last time I played, I had no shadow of IGA or anything else, but I played him and won the direct collections, so I don’t think this is a fair word to say because anything can really happen.
“Honestly, the way Ariana has been playing in the past few weeks, she was a popular victory, so I think she was the best person I could play in the final.
“He was in the world 1 in the world, he was the best person to play, so I think I got the hardest race, just if you get out of the statistics alone,” he said.
“Obviously, IGA, who wins here, will be a difficult match anyway, but yes, I think I think I had a good shot to win, and I definitely believed it.
“If you were honest asking me, I would talk to you guys, I wanted to play, that was Iga, just because I felt Ariana was playing very well, and she was.
