Arsenal may look to strengthen their squad in the upcoming January transfer window in a bid to boost their Premier League title bid.
Liverpool are currently ahead at the top of the table and Arsenal will be hoping they can take advantage if the Reds slip up. Mikel Arteta’s side are unbeaten in their last eight league games and the Gunners will look to continue that form in 2025 when they travel to Brentford on New Year’s Day.
With all that in mind, Mirror Football takes a look at the latest transfer news from and around the Emirates…
Arsenal have been heavily linked with a move for Alexander Isak, but Newcastle are demanding a whopping £150million for the striker.
Newcastle do not want to sell the forward and, with more than three years left on his contract, they are in a strong position. According to the Telegraph, Newcastle are ‘relaxed’ about Isak’s future and plan to open talks over a new deal soon.
The report adds that Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona and Real Madrid are also interested in the forward, while Liverpool are considering Isak as a possible successor to Mohamed Salah if he does not agree a contract extension.
Arsenal have widened their search for a new goalkeeper to provide cover for David Raya.
Espanyol’s Joan Garcia is on their radar, but it remains to be seen whether Arsenal will decide to trigger his £25m release clause. Although Garcia is their main target, Boca Juniors goalkeeper Leandro Brey has also been scouted by the Gunners.
He is understood to have a £12m release clause and is also attracting interest from the likes of Lazio, Napoli and Atletico Madrid. Neto was signed on loan from Bournemouth last summer to deputize for Raya, but Arsenal are not expected to make the move permanent.
Porto manager Vitor Bruno has denied suggestions Arsenal will recall Fabio Vieira next month after the midfielder missed Sunday’s win over Boavista.
“I have to make decisions, pay close attention to the performance of the players and how they look at their activities from day to day,” said Bruno. “Fábio is very talented, but talent has to be based on a series of assumptions And when one or two of them fall apart, it makes everything more difficult.
“It has enormous potential and I have a large squad that offers me guarantees, I cannot give up some principles that I have. I don’t need to pass on any message. Fábio knows me well and we rely on him. He will be available to play again next week. So it’s a matter of making decisions.”
