Brendan Rodgers resigns as Celtic Manager with O’Neill Rating

Rodger agreed a three-year deal on his return and has always insisted he will honor the contract since his initial departure in February 2019 causing much rancor.

When written about reaching that deal in August, he insisted there was no formal offer.

But Desmond has now given his side of the story, saying the club want to keep Rodgers going forward in this campaign to “enforce the club’s full support and long-term commitment to him”.

The Irish businessman went on to say that Rodger’s claim that no offer had been made was “simply untrue”.

This season was played against a backdrop of anti-board protests at Celtic Park and Desmond suggested that Rodgers had contributed to a “toxic atmosphere”.

Another part of the opening months of this term is the apparent panic of business transfer, with many references to summer recruitment.

Speaking after the 2-0 loss to Dundee on 19 October, he said: “There’s no way you’re going to go to a race in a Honda Civic and say ‘You’re going to make it a Ferrari’. It’s not going to happen.”

But Desmond wrote: “Every player signed and every player sold by his owner is done so with the approval, approval, approval of Brendan.

“His later public statements about transfers and club operations came out of the blue. There was no point before those remarks when he raised any concerns.

“In fact, he was given the final say in all football matters and was always supported in the recruitment process, including recording the process of the players he agreed to.

“The failure that failed not long ago was not because of our structure or model, but because of a person who sought to preserve himself at the expense of others.”
