The Irish Football Association said it was “fantastic news” the qualifying draw for Euro 2028 will be held in Belfast.
The tournament will be hosted by England, Scotland, Wales and the Republic of Ireland with no matches being played in Northern Ireland.
Parksment Park, which has not been used since 2013, was originally listed as one of the stadiums considered when the UK and Republic of Ireland bid to host Euro 2028.
However, the West Belfast Venue was removed from the list of venues in September 2024 after the UK government said it would not provide funding to keep the tournament alive.
“We are incredibly proud that our city has played an important role in delivering what is the best euro – one that celebrates the people,” said the president of Football, “said the president of Football,” said the President of Football, “said the president of Football,” said the president of Football, “said the President of Football,” said the President of Football, “said the President of Football,” said the President of Football to be with the people, “said the president of Football,” said the President of Irish Fa Carrad Kirkwood.
“This is a proud moment for the Irish Fa and for everyone who loves football here in Northern Ireland.”
With the opening game of the tournament set for Cardiff and matches to be played in stadiums across Ireland, the Republic of Ireland is, so far, the only Euro 2028 qualifier set to be played in Northern Ireland.
It will take place on 6 December 2026 at ICC Belfast.
“It is a real privilege to host the qualifying draw for UEFA Euro 2028 – a very important and memorable one,” Grand of Irish FA CEO Patrick Nelson.
“We welcome UEFA leadership, national associations and teams to Belfast, giving them the opportunity to experience all that our city and ICC Belfast have to offer.
“This is great news for Belfast, for Northern Ireland and for football across the islands.”
