“You have to give him a lot of credit for the two goals he scored today, especially the first one,” he said.

“Because it’s not easy to run away from our backline and have the confidence to finish past Nick, who is in good form and made a good save in the first half.

“For him to still be playing the way he is, it’s a credit to him.”

So how does welbeck do it?

This is a player who has had his fair share of injury problems over the years, but he has shown that he can thrive in the demands of Hurzerer’s system.

For context, no other side has forced more high turnovers in the Premier League this season than Brighton.

As always the delivery forward of the goal, under Hurzerer, they also have to work without the ball.

And Hurzerer explained how the break from the forward was part of his “recovery run” against Newcastle.

“He’s a quintessential professional,” he said. “Before and after training, he always tries to prepare. He recovers well.

“Every training session, he goes 100%. He never wants to rest. That is the main thing and, if there is a good personality and the main thing is how to describe Danny Welbeck.

“He’s always there. He’s not a selfish personality – he’s always there for his team-coffees.”
