‘Absolute shame Rangers are in this position’ – what now for Clement?

“It’s over. Patrick Stewart has it now. It can’t go on, it’s impossible.”

Former Ibrox striker Kris Boyd pulled no punches on Sky Sports post-match as Clement also insisted his side would bounce back, regroup and recover.

The Belgian also reiterated that this is a new, young squad, hampered by injuries.

The latter is not in doubt – although Dundee have 10 first-team players themselves – but Clement has now been assembling his squad for over a year.

Pains are no longer an excuse.

So what, if any, progress was made during Clement’s reign?

He picked up a piece of silverware in the League Cup, but lost that last month in the controversial final defeat by Celtic.

When he took over in October 2023, city rivals Rangers were seven points clear.

At this point last season, the destination of the trophy was still in doubt. This January, Celtic Park has been hit with satnav.

Yes, Clement finally beat Celtic on 2 January at Ibrox but, since then, he has seen his side drop four points. One step forward, two steps back.

“You can talk about progress, nothing,” Boyd fumed. “You destroyed Celtic a week ago, and you’re struggling for confidence?

“There are no confidence struggles going into the Celtic game. It can’t be just one.”
