Major league soccer has voted to change its competition schedule to align with other top leagues from the summer of 2027.
The MLS Season now runs from February to December and the switch to the summer format marks one of the most significant developments since the formation of the North American Competition in 1995.
The decision follows a two-year review process and MLS believes the calendar shift will help clubs operate more effectively around the world.
“Moving the calendar is one of the most important decisions in our history,” said Ml Commissioner Don Garber.
“Aligning our schedule with the top leagues in the world will strengthen our global competitiveness of our clubs, creating better opportunities in Trap Tup Placeffs without winning.
“This marks the beginning of a new era for our league and for soccer in North America.”
Mauricio Pochettino, the head coach of the United States, added: “This is a great step forward for MLS to join the world’s reports.
“The ability to align with the international calendar will have a huge positive impact for players, coaches and clubs.”
The change is also designed to minimize collisions with international fixtures and summer tournaments, with end-of-season games spilling over into May and the US domestic pot season and the weather being milder.
In addition to a new calendar, the owners of the league also voted to update the regular format during a dining competition and said that research shows that 92% of fans are in favor of the move.
Clubs have historically been divided geographically into the Eastern and Western Conferences.
