Lucy Bronze: Chelsea Full-Back-Back-Bane Named England Women’s Player of the Year After Euros Heroics

Lucy Bronze says she puts her “heart and soul” into every game after being named England Women’s Player of the year for 2024-25.

Fans voted for the Chelsea Full-back in a year that ended with the Lions winning Euro 2025 in Switzerland.

“I didn’t expect it but it’s always good to get recognition, especially from England fans,” said Bronze, 33.

“I adore playing for England and I’ve put my heart and soul into every game for the last 12 years. With that respect, especially a crazy year at the Euros.

Bronze made 16 appearances for England in 2024-25, 15 of them starts, and started all six Euro matches.

With his side 2-0 up in the quarter-final against Sweden, it was his 79th-minute header that sparked a shootout comeback that led to a penalty shootout. Bronze, with his waist tied, then smashed home the winning spot-kick.

After playing 106 minutes in Spain’s final win – also awarded a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw – it was revealed he was playing with a broken leg.

He has 140 caps since making his senior debut in 2013, putting him joint-top of the all-time appearance list with Alex Scott.

A two-time European champion, Bronze played 36 games across seven major tournaments, more than any other lionesses player in history.

“For me, 2015 was a real starting point as an England player – 2019, that’s how I hit my peak as something I couldn’t have imagined,” he added.

“The way we won the euro, the noise around it and women’s football in general in the world was out of the world.”

Arsenal Forward Chloe Kelly, Scorer in England’s Winning Match against Spain, and Chelsea Goalkeeper Hampah Hampton – Player of the Year and third.

Despite making two appearances for Chelsea this season due to injury, the brass has been included in the England Squad for the friendlies against Brazil (25 October, 17:30 BST).
