Resources are uncertain if Maccabi Tel Aviv Football Fans will be able to attend a match in Birmingham next month, says Lisa Nandy.
The Trust Group of the City of the City (Sag), which is made up of police, council experts and safety, has decided the previous fans against Assid Villa, on 6 November.
“It is not for the government to evaluate the risk surrounding this football game,” said Nandy, but said the ministers are working together to finance the necessary political operation.
His conservative shadow, NIGEL HuddleStone, said the ban was “shameful and a disgrace”.
Sag, which advises the council when issuing safety certificates, will review the decision if West Midlands Police changes its risk assessment, Birmingham City Council said.
On Thursday, West Midlands police said the fences were classified as “high incidents of intelligence and hate between Ajax and Maccabi and Maccabi Tel Aviv fans ahead of a match in Amsterdam, in November 2024.
Nandy said: “Following last week’s decision, the government is working with West Midlands Police Council and Birmingham City Council to secure options to remove the risks from both teams attending safely to teams attending safely.
“If the assessment is changed, the safety team will meet again to discuss options.”
