Aberdeen have appointed Lutz Pfannenstiel as Sporting director

Now he joins Aberdeen at a time when manager Jimmy Telin is under pressure after just three wins in 15 games this season.

“In particular, his technical knowledge, experience in academic development and global recruitment network were key factors for the board selecting him for this critical role,” he told Aberdeen’s website.

Pfannenstiel, who will be responsible for all areas of football and performance, is looking forward to joining a club with “a lot of tradition” starting on 10 November.

“Acquiring time to recognize the Club in the last two years, I inherited a strong infrastructure and team of staff,” he said.

Pfannenstiel will display a colorful CV at the Scottish Premiership Club.

Among his clubs as a player, Pfannenstiel is on the books of Nottham Forest, Wimbledon, Hudderder.
While playing for Geyland United in Singapore in 2001, he was jailed after being accused of match-fixing for what he claimed was “fair play” and released for lack of evidence.
On loan at Bradford Park Avenue, he was pronounced dead three times on the field after collapsing his lungs following a collision.
During his time in New Zealand, he kidnapped a penguin and hid it in his bathtub, only to send it back when the President of Otago came face to face.
Retiring from playing in 2011, Pfannenstiel went to TV Pundiitry, running coaching courses and raising the help of legends, Lothar Methaus and Carlos ValderRama and Carlos ValderRama.
He published a biography in 2014, which was released in the UK as the unstoppable keeper, and was described by Four Four magazine as the “Caziest man in football”.
Pfannenstiel spent nine years at 1899 Hoffenheim as head of international relations & scouting.
He had two seasons as Fort and Dusseldorf Sporting Director where they finished 10th in the Bundesliga, their highest position in three decades.
Pfannenstiel was the director of Sporting with ST Louis City for five years, creating their youth facilities and training facilities, while they won the Western Conference in 2023.
