Lincoln City fined for fans’ abuse of Wrexham’s James McClean

Lincoln City have been fined £8,500 by the Football Association (Foot) after supporters targeted an opposition player with “Sectarian Chants”.

The FA said the club had failed to control supporters after Wrexham’s James McClean was historically abused in two incidents in a bank match at Sincil on 3 May.

As well as the good fa imposing an action plan on the imps to try and stop future incidents that could see the club face further sanctions.

Chief Executive Liam Scully said: “We accept the compensation, acknowledge our responsibility, and remain firmly committed to eliminating negative behavior through a combination of education and sanctions.”

In its report, the FA said that the two incidents were reported to the anti-racism group which will start on 7 May.

The FA said in response to the report that the Club had reviewed CCTV, spoken to Lincolnshire Police and interviewed stewards.

A number of fans have been “identified as perpetrators” and “seven individuals have been banned from the club for various periods,” the FA added.

Action plan measures include setting up a system to allow fans to report abuse, developing a “protocol for dealing with players, managers and officials”.

Speaking to BBC radio Lincolnshire, Mr Scully said he hoped to hold an open meeting with supporters “to hear the fans’ experiences”.

“I think it’s important that we work around education and prevention,” he said.

“Using the two vehicles together as the right mix and the right mix to solve this expectation.”

He added: “I think it’s got that balance between making sure we have that weird situation where we do that we don’t like games, but I don’t really do it, but we don’t really have things that we like about each other.

“I believe and I know that we will have an inclusive environment where everyone is happy, everyone is happy, everyone is welcome who is also in the bank of sincil.”

The Club also said talks with the FA “regarded similar perceived behavior during our Carabao Cup Facts against Chelsea last month”.
