In November, Salah then said he had “not received any offers from the club” and so he had “more from within”.

After Liverpool’s win over West Ham on December 29, Salah said there had been no progress in talks and it appeared things had stalled once again.

Ahead of Liverpool’s meeting with the Red Devils at Anfield on Sunday, Salah told Sky Sports: “It’s my last year at this club, so you want to do something special for the city. That’s what was on my mind.

When pressed on whether he really believed this would be his last season at Liverpool, he said: “So far, yes. It’s been six months.

There is no progress there. We are far from any progress. So, we just have to wait and see.”

Salah also admitted that every summer, before the start of the season, he writes down a list of his ambitions for the upcoming campaign. Last summer he wrote about winning the Premier League.

He said: “The first thing on the list was to win the Premier League with Liverpool.”

Referring to their only Premier League title during the pandemic, “it’s probably because we didn’t celebrate the championship we wanted to.”

We’ve been waiting 30 years or more for that title. So, to win it and the pandemic of that time, we didn’t really have time to celebrate it in a proper way. It’s not a good thing, so I hope we can do it this year.

“What I have in mind is, if this is the last six months, what do you want to see in the future?” he said

“Do you want to look back and say I was worried about the contract or I was stressed? Or do you just want to say I had an incredible season? That’s what’s on my mind.”

“If I ever feel distracted, I just remind myself that I want to look back and say I had an incredible season. That’s what I want to do,” he said.

Salah has scored 17 Premier League goals and provided 13 assists and recently became the first player to score and assist in 8 different Premier League games in one season.
