Barcelona in talks for Premier League signing with ‘well over’ £25m price tag

Barcelona have reportedly opened talks to sign the star Premier League right-back, who would cost around $25m and is also on the radar of Chelsea and Manchester City.

Barca are no strangers to recruiting from the Premier League. From their current squad, Andreas Christensen, Rafinha, Marcus Rashford and Ferran Torres all joined from England.

While the quality of La Liga might not have been there a few years ago, Rashford in particular has been confirmed of late by the fact that players can move there from England and impress.

Barca will be happy with that knowledge as they pursue Crystal Palace right-back Daniel Munoz.

According to ESPN Colombia journalist Julian Capra, Barca have held informal talks with Munoz’s camp about a possible transfer, with full backing on a shortlist of options drawn up by sporting director Deco.

Munoz has two goals and two assists at right-back for Palace this season and has also attracted the attention of some Premier League clubs.

Football insider Munoz will reportedly cost more than the $25m he is on, with Manchester City and Chelsea among those interested.

Palace are desperate to hold on but it is said that Munoz wants to test himself at the highest level, and a move to any of the aforementioned sides would provide him with that opportunity.

There are question marks over whether Barcelona would be able to finance a deal given their current situation, while Premier League sides would certainly have no such problem.

Jules Conde is the only right-back in Barca’s senior squad, so the interest is understandable. At City, Matthijs Nunes often plays at right-back despite being a natural midfielder, and he believes Pep Guardiola wants a more natural option.

Given Munoz’s form, it is unsurprising that he is one of the top options, while Tino Leveramento is one of the other names mentioned in recent months.

Chelsea have a wealth of right-backs, although some are out this term.

Reece James has usually played as the Blues’ main right-back, Malo Gusto is sometimes pushed into midfield, and Josh Acheampong plays in the heart of defence.

As such, there is a question as to whether Munoz will get any minutes, with Chelsea’s current right wing having to play out of position to feature.
