Joe Gomez is set for a spell on the sidelines after suffering a hamstring injury Liverpool‘s 5-0 win over West Ham.

The first-half injury to the versatile defender, who has deputized brilliantly in the absence of Ibrahima Konatewas the only blemish on a perfect night for the Reds in London.

Goals from Luis Diaz, Cody SteelMohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Diogo Jota cent Arne Slot‘s side eight points clear at the top of the Premier League on Sunday night.

Title rivals Chelsea oath Arsenal are yet to play this gameweek, while unlikely challengers Nottingham Forest climbed up to second in the division with a 2-0 win over Everton.

Slot was understandably thrilled with his team’s complete display, with the only negative being the injury to Gomez, which he revealed will sideline him ‘for quite a bit’.

‘You saw today an injury of Joe Gomez. If a player says he wants to stop, he has to be changed,’ the Dutchman told Sky Sports. ‘In a sprint, then we all know it’s a hamstring and we all know it’s going to take a while before he’s back.

I don’t know how long but he will be out for quite a bit. These situations can happen in a season.’

Although the England international’s issue is an unwanted one, the Reds will be thankful that it has come as first-choice center back Konate nears a return to the side.

The French man has been out since November with a knee injury sustained in the closing stages of Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Real Madrid.

Liverpool have the best part of a week until their next game against Manchester United, raising the possibility that Konate, as well as back up right back Conor Bradley, could feature.

‘They will not be back for West Ham United, but then there is a week in between (before the game against Manchester United) so let’s see how close they are then,’ Slot said ahead of Sunday’s clash against the Hammers.

It’s difficult for me to tell you at this moment because they don’t train with the group yet, but hopefully in the coming days they will come closer to that situation. And then again, Ibou has been out then for five or six weeks maybe, Conor just as long I think, the same amount.

‘And also for them, they are in competition with players that are completely fit and doing really well, so I have to make the right judgment the moment they are back with the team.’

Academy graduate Jarell Quansah, who replaced Gomez at the London Stadium, is likely to get the nod. The youngster came into the season in the starting line-up but lost his place after just 45 minutes of the opening game against Ipswich.
