A former Manchester United fan favorite is set to see out the remainder of his career playing in Argentina with a move close to being agreed with an iconic South American side.
The former League Cup and European winning midfielder starred across five years at Old Trafford, winning the FA Cup, League Cup, and Europa League in the seasons that followed Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure.
Now 35-years-old and entering his final years at the top level, the combative midfield veteran looks set to join Boca Juniors in the January transfer window, as reported by Fabrizio Romano.
Ander Herrera previously joined United as former manager Louis van Gaal’s first permanent signing in 2014 and instantly became a beloved figure among the United terraces.
His dogged and passionate performances in the anchor of United’s midfield under Van Gaal and later Jose Mourinho helped United win several domestic honors before he eventually left for a move to another European giant.
United had tried to keep hold of the Spaniard but left it all too late with their last-ditch contract effort and Herrera opted to join PSG where he spent three years before returning to his boyhood club Athletic Bilbao.

It was somewhat expected that Herrera would spend the remainder of his professional career at the LaLiga side, but a departure is now waiting to be agreed with Boca.
It has reportedly been one of the former Red Devils star’s ‘desires’ to play for the iconic Argentinian side who have previously welcomed global legends of the game.
A deal between the involved parties is being finalized with a medical and a travel plan waiting to be signed off with there not expected to be any problems in signing the two-time Spain international.
Herrera’s existing contract runs until the end of the season with no agreement in place to extend his stay in Bilbao and Boca have offered him an exit from European football.
A one-year deal will see the ex-Man United player join Fernando Gago’s side ahead of the new season getting underway in the nation.
Herrera has only started three matches for Bilbao this season amid a myriad of injury problems but is currently fit and Boca wants to take advantage of his current availability.
