Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson has urged his teammates to “make our own history” as they chase the Premier League title in their debut season under manager Arne Sloto.
The Reds are currently six points clear at the top of the table, with a game in hand against second-placed Arsenal.
Alisson, who played a key role in Liverpool’s 2019-20 Premier League winning campaign under Jurgen Klopp, reflected on the achievement that ended the club’s 30-year title drought.
“This team was really special,” Alisson said. “We achieved great things. It was the first Premier League title in a long, long time.
“Together we reached (won) the Champions League in the previous season as well. You can’t compare both situations.
“What makes me happy is this group of players – we have the quality to do something special. The most important thing is the determination it takes to win something.”

Alisson is one of nine players in the current squad who were also part of the winning season in 2019-20.
Other returning players are Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Andrew Robertson, Caoimhin Kelleher, Harvey Elliott, Curtis Jones and Mohamed Salah.
However, Liverpool’s squad has developed significantly since then and new signings such as Ryan Gravenberch, Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister, Luis DĂaz, Darwin NĂșñez and Cody Gakpo have given the team new energy.
Under Slot’s leadership, the team also adopted a new tactical identity.
“I don’t think it’s too similar (to our style under Klopp),” added Alisson.
âA few players are still playing in the team, but we have a bit (a) different style, more possession. Before it was really easy, a lot of transitions, a lot of intensity.”
Slot, who joined Liverpool from Feyenoord in the summer, has introduced a more possession-based approach and moved slightly away from the high-intensity transitions that have characterized Klopp’s tenure.
This new tactical framework helped Liverpool dominate matches and maintain their position at the top of the table.
The Reds now face an important test as they prepare for Sunday’s visit of West Ham looking to extend their current lead.
Regarding the team’s progress, Alisson stressed the need to focus on writing their own success story rather than comparing themselves to previous teams.
“We don’t have to compare ourselves to teams in the past,” Alisson said. “We have to make our own history this season, this group.”
