Alan Shearer urges Marcus Rashford to ‘consider his options’ and delivers warning about Serie A as Man United eye swap deal to land Victor Osimhen

Alan Shearer Shearer has weighed in on the transfer speculation surrounding Marcus Rashford, suggesting that securing a deal during the January window would be ‘very difficult.’

Reports indicate Manchester United are open to letting Rashford leave after he was dropped by the manager Reuben Amorimwith a potential swap deal involving Victor Osimhen being discussed.

However, Shearer questioned whether a move to Serie A would suit the 27-year-old forward, advising Rashford to carefully evaluate all his options before making a decision.

The Premier League legend expressed confidence that Rashford could rediscover his ‘best’ form under Amorim at Manchester United with ‘hard work and the right attitude.’

He also acknowledged that other Premier League clubs might be keen on the forward but reiterated that finalizing a move in January, whether on loan or permanently, would likely prove challenging.

Speaking to Betfair about the subject, Shearer said: ‘There have been reports about a swap deal with Napoli for Rashford Victor Osimhen going to Old Trafford.

‘We’ve seen other players go to Serie A and get their career going. However, I think that where Marcus is concerned, he’d have to look at every option.

He’d have to see whether one fits or suits him, as well as Manchester United, which is perhaps the bigger consideration.

‘Whether that can be done in the next month or so, or whether he’s going to try and force his way back into the Man Utd starting eleven, I don’t know.

I do get the idea that it would be very difficult to get a deal done, because of all the different angles and parties involved with the deal.

I do think that it will be difficult to get a deal done this January, regardless of a loan or permanent deal. It’s a really difficult transfer to do.

‘There’s a lot to do and so many aspects to a transfer. First of all it’s about agreeing a fee, secondly agreeing a salary.

He’s on a huge wage right now at Man Utd and I’d be amazed if somebody in the Premier League would be willing to match that.

But just because nobody reports it, doesn’t mean that there’s no interest from Premier League clubs in signing him.

‘Nothing really surprises me in football, and just because there’s been no talk doesn’t mean that there hasn’t been any inquiries whatsoever.’

Mail Sport understands he has turned down three mega-money offers from the Saudi Pro League that would eclipse his £315,000-a-week deal at United.

The 27-year-old, who will not be featuring for Manchester United in their Premier League clash with Liverpool on Sunday, has also ruled out any moves to Turkey.

Despite saying last month that he is ‘ready for a new challenge and the next steps’ in his career, Rashford is open to staying at United where he is contracted until 2028.

However, according to the SunMan United are discussing the possibility of offering Rashford in a swap deal to land Napoli forward Victor Osimhen.

Osimhen, who has a £62m release clause in his contract, is currently on loan at Turkish giants Galatasaray.

The Nigerian star moved on loan after being banished from Napoli’s squad after seeing a move to the Premier League fall through in the summer.

The 26-year-old star had been heavily linked with a move to Chelsea during the summer transfer window.

The forward signed for Napoli in 2020 and he has scored 76 goals in 133 games in all competitions for the Italian giants.

He drove Napoli to their first title in 33 years in 2022-23, scoring 26 league goals in his most impressive campaign in blue.

Osimhen has scored 12 goals in 15 matches this season for Galatasaray and demonstrated his quality by netting twice against Tottenham in the Europa League.
