With all the focus on England’s competition for attacking places, Nico O’Reilly’s International Debut has likely slipped under the radar.
The 20-year-old – who only made his Premier League debut in April – received his first senior call-up in October and was given his debut by Thomas Tuchel’s Serbia in Wembesija.
The young Manchester City left-back is the sixth player to be handed a senior debut by Tuchel, joined by Dan, Trevoh Chalabah, Elliot Anderson and Myles Spen-Skelly.
O’Reilly was selected by Spece and Lewis-Skelly but did not look from the place of Ezri Konda, John Stones and Reece James in Defense.
“I’m over the moon,” O’Reilly told BBC Radio 5 live after the game. “Tonight is a very special night, making my debut. A dream come true for me and my family.
“My mum, stepdad, sister, for them watching me play here at Wembley is a crazy feeling.”
It has been a meteoric rise for O’Reilly for club and country, with his England debut hot on the heels of his impressive display at Liagpo in the Premier League on Sunday.
In that game he and Jeremy Doku formed a solid partnership down the left that the Reds couldn’t survive.
O’Reilly has no intention of standing still, however, with his eyes firmly set on securing a place in the Tuchel Cup Squad.
“It is a goal that I will try to go to the World Cup,” he added.
“There will be great competition but I have to keep working hard, game by game and day by day.”
