Exeter City Football Club Club on Fire at the Stadium

An investigation was launched after a fire broke out at the stadium in Eleeter City, causing damage.

Firefighters tackled the Blaze in St James Park After smoke was seen billowing from a Portacabin near the street well at around 22:00 GMT on Wednesday.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue said the fire started in an electrical unit, before spreading to a temporary building – a small area of ​​the stadium was damaged.

At midnight, the fire went out, with ventilation fans being used to clear the smoke. No injuries were reported and Club Bosses are grateful to members of the public who reported the incident.

The fire at the fire initially sent three crew members, and then two more as the flames “threatened to spread to one of the stands”.

“Fire crews used self-contained breathing apparatus and jet reels to contain the fire,” a fire spokesman said.

An investigation will conclude in the early hours of the morning, the fire service added.

The Football Club said the temporary building housed the control room and a small area of ​​the stadium that was damaged by the fire.

A spokesman for Exeter City Football Club said: “We are currently assessing the damage and will update when we have more information.

“Thank you to the members of the public who reported the incident and for the quick response of fire crews who contained the fire preventing further damage.”
