According to reports, Man UTD held talks in the summer to sign AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Magnan ahead of the signing of Sean Lemons.
The Red Devils spent more than $200 million on new arrivals during the summer transfer window with Lemmons arriving on deadline day to bolster their goalkeeping ranks.
Andre Ona came under a lot of pressure last season for a series of high-profile mistakes, leaving the Cameroon international on loan at Turkish side Turbinespor until the end of the campaign.
Right up until deadline day, there were rumors Man utd Aston Villa could opt to sign Lemmons over goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.
It has since been claimed that the Red Devils preferred Lemmens’ ‘younger profile’ and that Martinez would have cost twice as much and would have demanded wages in the region of £200,000 a week.
And now the French newspaper The team (via Get French football news) claim that there was another goalkeeper that Man Utd had their eye on in the summer transfer window.

AC Milan goalkeeper Mignon was the subject of bids from ‘Chelsea, as well as Manchester United’ in the summer and was ‘never close to leaving’.
The report added: ‘L’auchipe now reveals that Manchester United also tried to negotiate the signing of Mignon, as did Galatasaray. But either the plan didn’t suit the Frenchman, or the Serie A side blocked the move. Talks about a contract extension at AC Milan are still ongoing but are not progressing. No final decision has been made, but a departure on a free transfer is likely in the summer. ‘
Cameroonian journalist Remi Ngono insisted after Ona’s departure on loan that the goalkeeper should not have joined Manchester United and was a “scapegoat” for a poor season.

Nguno said: “I was the only person in that set who said Ona should not go to Manchester United and he would fail miserably.
He added: “This is Andre Ona who lost faith. You shouldn’t have gone to this Manchester United team.
“What I blame for Manchester United is that Ona is almost becoming a sacrificial sheep. Because nobody is going to tell me that Amorim has arrived and in 30 matches, he only took 31 points out of 90, and that it was Ona who did it all!”
