Tatham transfer ‘not convinced’ with Evan Toney on Frank reunion



Tottenham could look at a potential deal as Ivan Toney is “not 100 per cent convinced” about returning to England, although he could be reunited with former boss Thomas Frank.

Tony Playing in Saudi Arabia from 2024. In his first season in the Middle East, Toni scored 30 goals and is currently on 11 for the season.

The 29-year-old has been the subject of reports regarding a return to England of late. Tottenham Tony is one of the most interested clubs, with former Brentford boss at the helm.

Toni has scored more goals (72) than any other player Frank has played under in his career, and it feels like he will be a huge addition to this team.

Everton have also been linked with Toney of late, but according to Graeme Bailey, talking Everton NewsEngland is unlikely to return.

He said: “They’ve had discussions with Everton. They’ve been having general enquiry-type talks, they’re not closed, it’s not progressing very far at this point.

“There are Tottenham, West Ham and a lot of other clubs involved. The question is whether Tony really wants to come back to the Premier League. That’s something I’m told he’s not 100 per cent sure about.

“There is the tax issue that he will be responsible for. There is a way around that in terms of you can give him a loan. But, I am told, the clubs are not entirely convinced that Ivan Toni wants to move and will move.

“I have been told, by people close to the deal, that it is unlikely at this stage that he will go back to England.”

It could represent a shock for Tottenham, as former Spurs man David Bentley believed Toney would be in talks to return to England and felt the north London club was his best option.

He said: “He wants to go to Tottenham. The team, it’s not about the money, it’s about playing to get into the World Cup squad.

“The perfect environment is Tottenham. Tottenham could do with him and England – if something happens with (Harry) Kane, we’re struggling a bit for centre-forwards.

Bentley believes Spurs will be talking to Toney, but even if that is the case, a transfer looks far from certain.
