Sheffield Wednesday: Hope for the future, but tough times remain

“The owner maintains that he’s doing his best, but we’re asking questions that he ultimately doesn’t have answers to,” Palmer said.

“But we felt we had to ask them for the players.

“It would be nice to hear ‘that you will pay this time and the money will come’, but he has no answers rather than no answer than no question.”

The match with Middlesbrough proved to be one of the lowest points of his career, played in front of a nearly empty house to go to football as at any time.

“Football is dead without the fans, and for me Wednesday night is difficult,” he said.

“I went back to that time of covid, there was a loss around where everyone was.

“So it just kind of ignited a little fire within the group to use a little light of positivity to get us through the next few weeks and months.”
