“It was a massive goal. I’ll be honest I was a bit skeptical when United signed him, I didn’t know he had the ability to come and play for Manchester United, but he proved me wrong.

“I think he’s been a huge addition to the team and United’s player of the season.”

On the impact of the win against Liverpool, Rooney added: “It’s such a big win for the manager.

“I have questioned the decisions, I have questioned the tactics, I have questioned the will of the players this season and last season. This win is too much. It is not easy to win at Anfield.

“The confidence that gives to the players and the manager, I’ll be the first to say that it’s absolutely spot on.

“I hope we’ll see more of that. Two points from Liverpool now. I really liked the performance and we know the players can do it, we just have to see it at a consistent level.”

“I have to talk about Mbemo’s performance… he’s getting chances but he hasn’t been clinical,” Ferdinand said.
