Against Belgium, Republic of Ireland will be competing for a place in League A, a move which would improve their seeding for the 2027 Women’s World Cup qualifiers.

The Belgians sit 20th in the FIFA Women’s World Cup, seven places above the Irish.

Ward were without first-choice goalkeeper Brosnan, who missed both legs of the game with a knee problem.

Grace Moloney and Sophie Whiteuse have played regularly for Sunderland and Charlton Athletic in WSL 2 and ward with a “big question mark” starting on Friday at the Aviva Stadium.

“Grace and Sophie are in good form from a point of view, they are the top two in WSL 2 today,” he explained.

“They play and perform the same and they’re very different. Honestly, it’s not confirmed (who will start), there are some conversations.”

“Having his back not just on the pitch, off the pitch, he’s amazing,” said the 125-year-old midfielder.

“On the pitch, I’d argue he’s one of the best players I’ve had as a pro and everything he’s done.

“Losing DENISE is a disaster. I can’t tell you how happy I am to have her back.”
