Rangers have finalized the appointment of Danny Rohl as their new head coach – less than a week after the German ruled himself out of the running.
The development comes hours after a deal to bring Muscat to Kevin at Ibrox collapsed in advanced talks.
Rohl, whose last managerial position was with Sheffield Wednesday in the English Championship, was favored by ISROX before Muscat’s attention.
Rangers say negotiations are ongoing with a number of candidates and they aim to appoint a successor to the sacked Russell Martin in the coming days.
Martin was sacked after 17 games on 5 October with Rangers Eight in the League, nine points behind the leaders at the heart of Mid Bothian.
Rangers also failed to qualify for the Champions League under Martin and lost two of their Europa League games.
They currently sit sixth in the Scottish Premiership – 13 points
Muscat is in charge of Chinese side Shanghai Port, who are still in contention for the Super League Title in a race that could run in November or December.
Both parties are in advanced discussions to bring the former IBROX player to Glasgow, but the potential for a delayed start to his tenure has not worked out for either party.
