A photograph of Jude Bellingham performing an unusual training exercise at Real Madrid went viral last Wednesday, just a few hours after England qualified for the next summer’s World Cup without his presence.
The superstar of Real Madrid, considered one of the greatest talents of England, was surprisingly omitted from the last call of Thomas Tuchel despite his return from an injury.
The bold decision of Tuchel ended up paying off, as England beat Latvia 5-0 last Tuesday and qualified for the summer tournament in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Now, the Real Madrid midfielder has less than a month to demonstrate his worth to the Three Lions before the next round of selections in November.
And less than 24 hours after the last final in Riga, Bellingham was photographed working hard in training, overcoming his limits with a rare exercise that sparked the intrigue of football fans around the world.
The photograph, which was shared on the official Instagram account of Real Madrid and has accumulated more than 750,000 ‘likes’, and showed in English in full flight while sujetaba una pesa rusa and unas bandas de resistencia a las plantas de sus pies.
Puffing out his cheeks, the midfielder showed a concentrated expression while lifting the 14-kilogram Russian. The exercise in the air led one fan to describe Bellingham as the ‘flying man’.

Bellingham came to Madrid to train and was summoned by Thomas Tuchel for the English team
Now that England has qualified for the World Cup, Bellingham will be anxious to impress Tuchel in the next few weeks
According to anonymous club sources who spoke with The Athletic, the exercise is part of a larger group activity and performed by all Real Madrid players.
The secret exercise is based on a conventional squat, but it is much more advanced than those performed in the common gymnasium.
First of all, the resistance bands help the players to produce a plyometric contraction while jumping, an exercise that creates a stretching-shortening cycle and helps the muscular power.
The explosions of speed and power of players like Bellingham are favored by this contraction.
Real Madrid stars are also told to point their feet outward while performing the movement, producing a position of ‘sumo squatting’, according to specialists.
When performing the squat in this explosive manner, the adductor muscles are strengthened more prominently.
The kettlebell, along with resistance bands, increases the intensity of the exercise by adding more weight.
It is said that the sumo adaptation session was one of the new exercises introduced in Real Madrid by the renewed technical body that arrived with Xabi Alonso in May.
Bellingham started with Real Madrid in a 1-0 victory against Getafe on Sunday
Sources said it may ‘come as a surprise’ to those inside the Bernabéu, but insisted that the exercise is ‘something very normal’ for the players.
Bellingham took the lead on Sunday, when Alonso’s team won 1-0 against Getafe thanks to a goal from Kylian Mbappé.
Real Madrid will face Juventus, FC Barcelona and Liverpool in three of their next four matches.
