Man UTD takeover: UAE-based consortium may face ‘immediate’ Man City issue in latest update



According to a football finance expert, any UAE-based consortium looking to buy the man could be linked to arch-rivals Man City.

Saudi Arabia’s boxing promoter Turki Al-Sheikh stirred it up Man utd fanbase recently when he claimed a potential takeover of the club was ‘advanced’.

Al-Sheikh wrote x: ‘The best news I’ve heard today is that Manchester United are now in an advanced stage of completing a deal to sell to a new investor – I hope he’s better than the previous owners.’

But al-Shea had to clarify his comments after speculation that he or another Saudi was somehow involved in the potential takeover.

Posting again a day later, Al-Sheikh wrote: ‘My post yesterday about the possible sale of Manchester United means one thing: the club is in an advanced stage of negotiations with a new investor.

‘Just to clarify, I am not an investor, nor are they from my nation. I’m posting this as a fan who wishes to make a deal, though it may not be necessary. ‘

Widespread reports have since claimed that a UAE-based consortium is interested in buying the Glazers. With the ‘meeting’ of main UTD officials held in London last week.

Sheikh Mansour, who owns Man City, is the vice-president and deputy prime minister of the UAE, and Stephen Bourson, a former national financial adviser, insists there will be links to their neighbors if a UAE investment firm buys Man Utd.

Borson said Football insider: “I don’t think any of that is likely, to be honest.

“I haven’t looked closely at the parties that may be involved from the UAE, but we know that Saudi Arabia and the UAE invest in so many related businesses within the countries that many things may not just be related party transactions but may be party related.”

“So, you’ve got this complexity first. You’ve also got a situation where they ran a process two years ago and you have to ask why is there a bidder running now that wasn’t there two years ago?

“If this is really going on in the background, how have they kept it a secret? How come they haven’t made any other official announcement to the New York Stock Exchange? What price will be paid? Or is someone really going to come along and allow payment when most people think it’s overpriced.”
