The signing of the British record Alexander Isak was not enough to justify the start of Hugo for Livernga and Manchester United Strisher Welger Rooney.
Sweden international Isak, 25, joined the Reds in September from Newcastle for £125m, but has scored one cup – in seven appearances in all competitions.
Sunday’s loss to Manchester United at Anfield was his third Premier League start in a row without scoring.
His teammate Ekitike, who was a substitute for the red devils, scored four goals for Liverpool with three in the league.
“I’m not going to play Isak, he doesn’t look prepared from Newcastle,” Rooney said on the Wayne Rooney Show.
“He didn’t train, never before. It’s very important. While Newcastle is training he probably sits at home for six hours a day trying to start.
“It’s very difficult when you don’t have a pre-season. He could have done things on his own but he paid the price for it.
“In performances, he should not play ahead of Ekitike.”
Manchester United’s loss was Liverpool’s fourth in a row in all competitions, the first time they endured such a run in November 2014.
Liverpool won the title of the Premier League last season and although they started this term with seven consecutive victories in all competitions in all competitions in all games in all games.
“They have a bit of fun,” added Rooney.
“For arne slot, you forget because he won the Premier League, but he’s still young – 46 years old and it’s the first time he’s lost four in a row in his career.
“(Against Manchester United) he argued with the officials on the touchline, I’ve never seen that before him.
“We’re starting to see things that show there’s pressure there.”
