Nutmeg Forest: What happened in the tunnel before the post-Cologne sacking as three ‘silent’ stars are highlighted

TNT Sports presenter Jules Brech has revealed what happened in the tunnel in the moments before Nottingham Forest sacked Angel Posicoglou.

The Australian was dismissed less than 21 minutes into Forest’s 3-0 defeat at the City Ground on Saturday afternoon.

Nottingham Forest Nuno Espirito Santo was sacked in the September international break and the Portuguese coach was replaced by Post Coglou, who won the Europa League at Tottenham last season.

However, in five Premier League matches, Post-Cologne could only manage one point from 15, while his side were knocked out of the League Cup by Championship side Swansea and picked up just one point from two Europa League fixtures.

BBC Sport It has been reported that Post Coglow was told he had been sacked before speaking to his Nottingham Forest players in a post-match team talk.

The BBC Claim: ‘He (Evangelos Marianakos) did not break the news to PostKoglo, instead a senior club official told the 60-year-old – although this is not unusual.

‘Post-Coglo then said goodbye to his players, apologizing to them that it didn’t work out and that he wasn’t able to deliver what he was brought in to do.’

TNT Sports The offer breach details what he saw in and around the tunnel around the time Post Coglow was sacked by Nottingham Forest.

Breach said: “Despite the fact that there was a lot of noise about it possibly happening before the match, I still think the timing and the way it happened has taken everyone by surprise, certainly in the tunnel and obviously the dressing room as well.

“I was interviewing Morgan Gibbs-White about the match when the news broke. That’s when we found out that Ange Postkoglow had been sacked as Nottingham Forest manager.

“In that interview, Morgan Gibbs-White said that Inge post-Cologne addressed the players in the dressing room and just talked about how frustrating it was that he could see improvement, the team could see improvement and progress, but they just weren’t putting the ball in the back of the net and they were handling slow goals.”

Breach added: “From what we saw in the tunnel, before that interview, Ange Postkoglu went into the home dressing room, spoke to the players and then actually went to the other side of the tunnel area. We saw him come out and Edo was also in the corridor at the time.

“Ange Post Koglo left with a bag on his back and headed out to the car park. At the time, the writing was on the wall but it wasn’t confirmed until a few minutes later when the news was confirmed. Ange Post Koglo’s backroom staff are still here. As far as we know, Ange Post Koglo has already left the stadium.”

Former Premier League striker Clinton Morrison singled out Chris Wood, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Morgan Gibbs-White for “quiet” seasons.

Morrison said Sky Sports: “Not winning in eight games is not good anywhere. They’ve got a big European game in midweek.

As in previous games, “there were some boos at the end but they weren’t chanting ‘you’re getting fired in the morning.’

“The problem is they can’t keep a clean sheet like they did last season. Chris Wood was on fire, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Morgan Gibbs-White played well but these players have been quiet this season.

“They’re missing big chances. You feel for managers in those situations.”
