David Moyes says he is not ready to retire from football management – but is ready to be more selective about the jobs he chooses in the future.
The 61-year-old Scot has been appointed an OBE in the New Year Honors list for services to football, with his total of 697 Premier League games as a manager surpassed only by Arsene Wenger and Sir Alex Ferguson .
His managerial career spanned more than 1,100 games at six clubs, starting with Preston in 1998 before moves to Everton, Manchester United, Real Sociedad, Sunderland and West Ham United.
Moyes has been out of action since his second stint as Hammers boss ended in May. He’s been linked with a number of jobs and has put some procedures in place this season – but for now, he’s content to rest.
“I don’t consider myself finished yet but I’m definitely enjoying some time off,” he told BBC Sport.
“The one thing I don’t do is put any manager under pressure personally, because I don’t believe in it. I don’t like it when I’m in that position myself.
“We’re all growing up and I have to make sure I’m doing the right thing for myself.
“Football is in my blood. Ever since I was young. I love watching football and I enjoy my career.
“If there’s another side to it, fine. But I want it to be a good side. I don’t want to come in and do something too difficult.
“I don’t want to be at the bottom of the league and fight relegation as I have done several times, so we’ll see how things go.”
