Bombshell Ruben Amorim report details the INEOS summer sabbatical as the cause of the struggle unfolds.

Manchester United turned down the chance to sign Ruben Amorim in the summer due to his cost in the Premier League at the moment.

Amorim has now lost more games than won as Manchester United boss. Unexpected gut punches Old Trafford was always going to be a tough job.

A huge problem for the Portuguese boss is limited training time with his players mid-season, making formation and style changes particularly difficult.

But it is that change of style that led Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS to reject the chance to sign him in the summer, according to Alex Crook of TalkSPORT.

Discussing the issue of players getting up to speed with Amorim’s plans, Croke said: “So it’s up to INEOS then, isn’t it?

“They played the same style of football in pre-season with a manager – not that we ever really knew what it was – then they got the players to adapt to it before they sacked that manager. Spent a lot of money for.”

Troy Denney replied: “And now they’ve gone down a completely different path.”

Croke continued: “Also, I know that ownership was presented to Ruben Amorim in the summer when he was beauty-parading various managers.

“They were talking to Roberto De Zerbi, Kieran McKenna, Thomas Tuchel and they said no to Amorim because his style didn’t suit this Man United squad.

“They then put it at X amount weeks later. Doesn’t fill you with confidence, does it?”

Sam Materface took a different view, claiming: “This happens because knowing this information shows that they are clearly planning for the long term rather than the short term.

“It will probably fill you with more confidence!”

But Croke replied: “Nothing they’ve done so far has filled me with confidence.”

Danny then provided some insight into why pre-season is so important in getting ready for the new season.

He explained: “There’s fit, match fit and tactical fit – there are different ways of doing it.

“The problem this manager has is getting these players fit during the season.

“I’ve missed pre-season twice in my career through injury – this season I’ve done well but I’ve never felt good. Pre-season is huge as a player.

Meanwhile, in a surprising development, Marcus Rashford is back in the United squad to face Newcastle on Monday..

The England international has not been included in the matchday squad since telling journalist Henry Winter that he is looking for a “new challenge”.

Rashford’s re-integration could be good news for him as it doesn’t look like he will have a wide range of transfer options in the January transfer window.
